His father Christoph wanted Dassler to be a
baker because the future of the German shoe industry was not bright at the
time. Then in 1913, Dassler finished high school and worked as an apprentice at
a bakery, but Dassler, who was not interested in baking, spent most of his time
exercising. With his friend, he enjoyed many sports such as track and field,
soccer, boxing, ice hockey, throwing a spear, skiing, etc. Dassler, who
finished his bakery apprenticeship in 1914, decided not to become a baker and
eventually began to learn how to sew shoes from his father. And Dassler, who
usually liked sports, realized that his athletic ability improved when he
changed the design of his shoes. At that time, there were no shoes for sports
games such as running shoes, soccer shoes, and basketball shoes. Dassler
thought that he should make special sneakers for sports. However, in 1918,
during World War I, Dassler was drafted into the German army at the age of less
than 18.

how he would live the rest of his life and vowed not to waste time with a dream
of sports shoes. When Dassler returned from the army in 1919, his mother's
laundry was closed due to the economic recession brought by the war, and
Dassler decided to use it as a workshop to make his own innovative sneakers.
Dassler, who had nothing, created something out of nothing. At first, I started
collecting war wastes scattered around the town while repairing local shoes,
getting leather from army helmets and pouches, silk from parachutes, and
everything I needed to make shoes such as military uniforms, sack bags and car
tires. Dassler, who started making shoes little by little, sent a sample of
shoes to a local sports club and received feedback and started receiving

established a company called "Dasler Brothers Shoes Factory" with a

divided their work according to each other's talents and proceeded with the
business. If his younger brother Adolf Dassler was a focused inventor, his
older brother Rudolph Dassler had an outgoing and charismatic entrepreneurial
temperament. And Rudolph Dassler was in charge of sales activities based on his
experience working in ceramic and leather factories. The Dassler brothers' shoe
factory had 12 employees who made 50 pairs of shoes a day into the handicraft
industry, which in its early days had to endure financial difficulties.
Adolf Dassler, who wanted to make sports
shoes, started making shoes that could be worn on the track. After testing
various materials such as kangaroo skin and shark skin, I used cowhide and hit
a pointed screw with a small piece of metal on the sole of my shoe. People
