I will explain the history and development of Adidas, a world-class sports brand.
ADIDAS / https://en.wikipedia.org |
Adolf Dassler, founder of ADIDAS.
Adolf Dassler, founder of ADIDAS, was born
on November 3, 1900 in a small town in Germany. The village where Dassler was
born was famous for making shoes, and 112 out of 3,500 residents had a job
making shoes. Adolf Dassler's father, Christoph Dassler, was one of the shoe
makers, and his wife, Polly Dassler, was running a laundry. Adolf Dassler was
the youngest of four siblings, and unfortunately, he and his family were very
poor, so he had to help his mother with her laundry since childhood. But the
mischievous kids in the neighborhood made fun of Adolf Dassler, who works in a
laundry shop, as a laundry boy. But Dassler couldn't afford to care about his
nicknames because he focused on making a living.
His father Christoph wanted Dassler to be a
baker because the future of the German shoe industry was not bright at the
time. Then in 1913, Dassler finished high school and worked as an apprentice at
a bakery, but Dassler, who was not interested in baking, spent most of his time
exercising. With his friend, he enjoyed many sports such as track and field,
soccer, boxing, ice hockey, throwing a spear, skiing, etc. Dassler, who
finished his bakery apprenticeship in 1914, decided not to become a baker and
eventually began to learn how to sew shoes from his father. And Dassler, who
usually liked sports, realized that his athletic ability improved when he
changed the design of his shoes. At that time, there were no shoes for sports
games such as running shoes, soccer shoes, and basketball shoes. Dassler
thought that he should make special sneakers for sports. However, in 1918,
during World War I, Dassler was drafted into the German army at the age of less
than 18.
Laundry Shoe Factory
Dassler, who was in the army, agonized over
how he would live the rest of his life and vowed not to waste time with a dream
of sports shoes. When Dassler returned from the army in 1919, his mother's
laundry was closed due to the economic recession brought by the war, and
Dassler decided to use it as a workshop to make his own innovative sneakers.
Dassler, who had nothing, created something out of nothing. At first, I started
collecting war wastes scattered around the town while repairing local shoes,
getting leather from army helmets and pouches, silk from parachutes, and
everything I needed to make shoes such as military uniforms, sack bags and car
tires. Dassler, who started making shoes little by little, sent a sample of
shoes to a local sports club and received feedback and started receiving
numerous orders with good reviews.
The Dassler brothers' shoe factory.
Dassler's brother, Rudolph Dassler, saw the
potential for his brother's business. On July 1, 1924, the two brothers
established a company called "Dasler Brothers Shoes Factory" with a
mission to provide the best sports shoes for world sports players. Although
Dassler and Rudolf Dassler were brothers, they were very different, but they
divided their work according to each other's talents and proceeded with the
business. If his younger brother Adolf Dassler was a focused inventor, his
older brother Rudolph Dassler had an outgoing and charismatic entrepreneurial
temperament. And Rudolph Dassler was in charge of sales activities based on his
experience working in ceramic and leather factories. The Dassler brothers' shoe
factory had 12 employees who made 50 pairs of shoes a day into the handicraft
industry, which in its early days had to endure financial difficulties.
Adolf Dassler, who wanted to make sports
shoes, started making shoes that could be worn on the track. After testing
various materials such as kangaroo skin and shark skin, I used cowhide and hit
a pointed screw with a small piece of metal on the sole of my shoe. People
laughed and laughed at the shoes made, and Adolf Dassler didn't care about them
and focused on making them. It was patented in 1925 by developing spiked
running shoes. And as demand began to grow significantly in 1926, they took
over a factory near a train station near the village, increased staff to 25 and
made 100 pairs of shoes every day.

Adidas became famous. Through the Olympic gold medal,
The 1928 Summer Olympics were held in
Amsterdam. Adolf Dassler gave a pair of shoes with six spikes he developed to
German sprinter Lina Radke, who won the gold medal in the 800-meter sprint
wearing the shoes given by Adolf Dassler, setting a world record of 2:16
seconds. It was the moment when Adolf Dassler's idea was proven worldwide. At
the 1936 Summer Olympics in Berlin, Adolf Dassler persuaded Jesse Owens, a
leading U.S. gold medalist, to wear his own pair of track shoes, which he
delivered, to announce Adolf Dassler's shoes worldwide by winning four gold
medals.
The Miracle of Bern / https://www.fifa.com |
The Miracle of Bern
In 1949, ADIDAS became the official
supplier of the West German national football team. And in the 1954 World Cup
in Switzerland, a huge event occurred because of the soccer shoes of ADIDAS.
The West German national team wore soccer shoes made by ADIDAS and faced
Hungary, the world's strongest at the time, in the final. The Hungarian team
was so strong that people expected Hungary to win. But there was a variable,
which was the heavy rain in Bern, where the game was. After the start of the
game, Hungary was taking the lead by scoring two goals, but the ground
gradually turned into mud due to the heavy rain, and the Hungarian team had to
play with heavy soccer shoes that were covered with mud. On the other hand, the
West German soccer shoes were free from mud.
The reason is that Adolf Dassler regularly
met with the West German soccer team and heard a lot about sneakers from the
players, and they wanted to be able to replace the studs according to the
situation because the ground condition varies a lot depending on the weather.
And Adolf Dassler made soccer shoes so that they could be replaced. The West
German team, which had been replaced by a long stud at half-time, tied the
ground at the start of the second half, and eventually scored the winning goal
in the 39th minute of the second half, and West Germany won the World Cup.
Through this game, detachable stud soccer shoes gained worldwide popularity and
ADIDAS became a global sports brand 바카라사이트.
Conclusion
I explained the short but detailed history
and process of ADIDAS. And I will write about the relationship between Adolf
Dassler and his brother Rudolf Dassler in the next ADIDAS 2. In short, Rudolph
Dassler grew into different brands as his relationship with his brother Adolf
Dassler deteriorated. And soccer shoes made by younger brother Adolf Dassler
became a global sports brand and many soccer players are using ADIDAS brand
soccer shoes until now. I'll be back with flight ADIDAS2.
